Ubirch introduces new ESG Scope 3 readiness seal for companies

Cologne, August 22, 2024 – The German technology company Ubirch is pleased to announce the launch of its new ESG Scope 3 Readiness Seal. This seal serves as clear evidence of a company's commitment to controlling and transparently disclosing its Scope 3 emissions by making them available in a machine-readable format.

Scope 3 emissions, often arising from supply chains, business travel, and other external sources, pose a significant challenge for companies. With the ESG Scope 3 Readiness Seal, Ubirch recognizes companies that not only identify and manage their emissions but also actively and transparently present them to their customers and partners. By providing these data in a machine-readable format, companies can effectively integrate their sustainability efforts into the systems and processes of their partners.

Stephan Noller, CEO of Ubirch, explains: "Our ESG Scope 3 Readiness Seal demonstrates that a company is ready to take responsibility for its indirect greenhouse gas emissions. Companies that work with suppliers carrying our seal can improve their own Scope 3 footprint and have a positive impact on the entire supply chain."

The seal comprises various levels of certification – from Bronze to Platinum – and is automatically awarded based on the published emissions data:

  • Bronze: Automatically awarded to companies that publish their initial emissions data through the Ubirch platform.
  • Silver: Awarded when companies provide emissions data both at the corporate level and for specific production units.
  • Gold: Additionally requires that the published data is at least partially based on primary data from suppliers.
  • Platinum: Awarded when companies also submit ESG certifications such as ISO, SBTi, or Ecovadis.

The clear criteria and requirements for each level allow companies to structure and enhance their sustainability efforts. Typically, these include information on the company’s carbon footprint, such as Carbon Content Footprints (CCF) and Product Carbon Footprints (PCF).

The ESG Scope 3 Readiness Seal strengthens customer trust and underscores the credibility of a company's sustainability efforts. It demonstrates that the company is actively working to reduce its carbon footprint and is making these efforts transparent, which in turn enhances the company’s image and reputation.

Numerous companies have already received the ESG Scope 3 Readiness Seal on the Ubirch platform, indicating that they have their emissions under control and are demonstrating this transparency to their partners and customers.

About Ubirch:

The German technology firm Ubirch has created the ESG Data Exchange Network, enabling companies and their suppliers to easily and securely meet EU requirements for ESG data in sustainability reports starting in 2024. It is thus a crucial component of the CSRD process, enabling transparency and climate protection through the exchange of machine-readable, directly operational ESG data. Both data suppliers and data collectors can reduce their costs and become more efficient. The purpose of the ESG Data Exchange Network is to provide Scope 3 CSRD ESG data to all customers or to receive it uniformly from all suppliers.

Ubirch specializes in the digital verification of data and was founded in 2016. Together with a consortium, the company developed the EU's digital COVID certificate for Germany. For more information, visit www.ubirch.de.
